David M. Kelley, founder and chairman of IDEO and a professor at Stanford University, is a California-based entrepreneur, educator, designer, and venture capitalist.

David Kelley has been. recognized as one of America’s leading design innovators. In 2000 he was honored with the annual Chrysler Design Award, and the National Academy of Engineering elected him to its membership, one of the highest distinctions given 10 engineers in the US, recognizing him for "affecting the practice of design." In 2001, the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum presented David Kelley and IDEO with the National Design Award in Product Design. In 200S, David was recognized for his "distinguished contribution to design education" with the Sir Misha Black Medal.

David formed IDEO in 1991 by merging his product design firm with two industrial design firms. Today, IDEO helps the world's best-known brands identify opportunities for innovation and transform their businesses through design thinking. At Stanford University, David Kelley is the Donald W Whittier chaired professor in the school's innovative Product Design program. In 2004, David led the creation of the Hasso Plattner" Institute of Design at Stanford, known as the "d.school", founded in the belief that great innovators and leaders need to be great design thinkers. The d.school is intended to be a place for Stanford students and faculty in engineering, medicine, business, the humanities, and education to learn design thinking and work together 10 address business and social challenges in a human-centered way.
