The Edison Universe means so much more to me than merely an internship. This internship has fostered me into a confident, well-spoken student who is ready and eager to finally take the first step in my career. As a senior attending the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, I am graduating with a degree in Marketing and a Professional Selling emphasis. I plan on using my degree to start a career in sales and, one day, have the opportunity to run my own business. The experiences I have gained working with the Edison Awards have helped lay the groundwork that I need in order to achieve the ambitious goals I have set for myself.
I have been fortunate enough to intern for the Edison Universe for four years, and the only thing I have not been allowed to do is become comfortable. Throughout this experience, I have consistently been pushed out of my comfort zone, giving me no choice but to take chances and grow as a professional. I have met influential innovators from all across the globe, including being a liaison to Elon Musk. Thanks to the Edison Universe, I have also had the opportunity to continuously network and learn from C-Level executives from the world’s most admired companies. Because of this, I am now equipped with the confidence and charisma to start a conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time, without hesitation.
The most important lesson the Edison Awards has taught me is that you have two ears, but only one mouth, for a reason. Listen more than you speak and you will go a long way. As a young student with little experience, I quickly began to use the Edison Award events as my classroom. I have had the privilege to be surrounded by highly successful innovators and entrepreneurs who have been more than willing to pass down their lifetime’s worth of knowledge and valuable lessons learned.
All in all, the instruction by example and the real world experience I have gained from my internships with the Edison Universe have prepared me for a future position in the fields of sales and marketing. They have taught me to dream big and to never become complacent. Most importantly, the Edison Awards has given me both the confidence, and the essential tools, to become successful; it’s now up to me to utilize them.
I want to sincerely thank the Edison Universe staff and the Edison Awards Steering Committee for providing me with this amazing opportunity. I look forward to one day attending the Edison Awards to be recognized for a product or service that my own company has launched.
