Snapshot: What if instead of telling kids what they can’t do, we give them tools to see what they can do? Based on over 60 years of Stanford University research, Redbird Mathematics: Advanced Edition uses cutting-edge gamification and adaptive instruction to create a personalized learning experience.
The Edison Awards™ is an annual competition honoring excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design, and innovation. The competition is open to innovative organizations across the globe. The Edison Awards™ are focused on the innovators as much as the innovations – a unique distinction in the world of award programs. Award winners represent “game changing” products and services, as well as excellence and leadership in innovation around four criteria: Concept, Value, Delivery, and Impact.
GiftedandTalented.com won gold at the 2017 Edison Awards by standing out in the four core criteria categories.
Concept: Redbird Mathematics: Advanced Edition is a labor of love inspired by the educational experiences of Matthew Mugo Fields, an immigrant who, after relocating to America, was placed on a vocational track based on that assumption that his country’s education system was substandard. He had educators, friends and family that saw greater potential and who helped him succeed. But not all kids have that kind of support. So when Matthew heard that Stanford was looking for a partner, he bid for exclusive rights to develop cutting-edge adaptive learning technology that has the power to help ALL students achieve their potential.
Value: Redbird Mathematics: Advanced Edition allows kids, on their own time, to find the pathways to learning that work best for them, at their own speeds. The adaptive nature of the tool identifies and helps students work through the elements they find most challenging, helping them solve problems in different ways until the principle clicks.
Delivery: Analytics show that students who use our tool finish the Redbird Mathematics: Advanced Edition course at least two grades ahead of their chronological grade. Research from NYU shows that students score two times higher on standardized tests. And 90 percent of our student alumni achieve academic distinction.
Impact: When students are empowered to discover their own limits, they are more likely to excel. Redbird Mathematics: Advanced Edition, when used in conjunction with the support of tutors trained in the technology, has been proven to advance understanding and achievement by up to two grade levels
